Re: Rain Damage?

wellcrafts are waterproof. it's those cheap ones that people shouldn't get wet. it won't fall apart if you leave it in the water; it won't turn into a sponge if there's a pint of water in the bilge; the deck won't laminate if it gets rain on it; the gunwales won't dissolve if salt water gets on them.
Relax. Think about cars. That vintage Triumph needs to stay in a garage and be driven when it's dry out. The 1992 Impala can stay outside and never needs washing. A wellcraft is like a F150--a solid machine that can handle being what it is: a boat, not an antique sofa.

Although many of the above posts have implied this, I haven't seen it stated explicitly: Getting a boat wet inside will not cause rot as long as the boat is allowed to dry out. It's LEAVING a boat wet inside that causes rot (and mold). Mold can grow in a wet, warm boat interior in a couple of days. A boat needs to be wet for a couple of months before rot is a concern.

A few hours in a rainstorm won't hurt anything.

Bingo! you dont even need to cover it as long as it dries. Of course the rain will not be good for your vinyl. So a cover is a good thing.
Covering a boat, in my opinion, is the biggiest PITA about boating. Invest in a real good cover so your not worried about drying out your boat every time it rains. Bow up, plug out and get the wet/dry vac to suck up the puddles

I agree that covering is a huge PITA and often unsatisfactory. That is why I choose to have boats that don't need covers! A fair trade in my view.

I soaked up all the excess water with a few towels, and I shoveled out the little bit of ice/snow that was left over. The cover is off for the night so it can air out, but since it's below freezing, it probably won't help much.

I started a project thread in the resto section with lots of pics. Feel free to check it out and give me additional advice!
