I would say that you have corrosion in the wiring some where. This will cause a high resistance in the power circuit. As you need more power (current) when the lights are turned up it is not available. This will cause the voltage to drop to your accessories. That would cause the lights to dim and the volume to drop. It is basically the same as a low battery in your car. If it is low and all you have on is the radio (engine not running) everything is fine. As soon as you turn on the headlights the radio volume will go down. Hope that helps. Now all you have to do is find the point of high resistance.
