Hi,

I was wondering if someone could provide some insight on a new shift control unit that would be an easy replacement for the quicksilver 3000 classic.
I have trailer and trim switches on my lever. I've also included an image of a shifter I found on the web that is identical to mine.
Mercury has a call in line for technical questions but they charge $20 per call. I was hoping to avoid that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The easiest replacement is always what you already have. What is wrong with yours? They are pretty reliable, it may be repairable.

easiest replacement is by using the same one, remove the insert, remove 3 bolts,

The 3000 is NLA. He has to go to a 4000 which means cables also.

It may be repairable as said, so I won't ask again.

Sorry for the late reply guys. Unfortunately the throttle only button continues to get stuck every time I press it in. I've disassembled the entire unit twice and cleaned out all the old grease.
The first time I reassembled the unit I added grease to where the dowel slides behind the throttle button. I only had to depress the button once for it to get stuck. The second time I cleaned out the dowel pin slot and only used WD40 as the lube (no grease). I would say probably by the 5th time I pressed the button it had become stuck again.
I have no patience with these types of repairs, and I also can't afford to get stuck out on the water without the ability to engage into gear.
I'm ready to replace the unit, it is 18 years old. My boat is 1998 Maxum 2700SCR and it looks as if it has never been replaced.

I was looking at this model earlier today but the seller couldn't guarantee it would fit.

They recommended I call Mercury. The number they provided stated the call will cost $20.

Any preferred control boxes out there?

Thanks again

Wd40 is not a lube. I have the same control on my 96 it it works perfect. Figure out what the holdup is. That is a pretty basic part to be replacing the whole thing.
