Bottom 6" of my transom was rotten. The rest was good wood and for the most part bonded well. I cut the first section and started to peel. Took forever and was unable to separate the last ply from the glass. So I broke out the 9" grinder with a 24 grit pad on it and sanded and sanded .......3 hours later I had skinned a 18x24 piece. I needed a better way:help:
break out the zip gun!
it took me 2 hours to finish the other 5.5 feet. I used a 4" grinder with a diamond concrete disk to cut glass. Then used an oscillating saw to cut wood. For the air hammer I used 2 bits. Both sharpened like a knife. The wide one I made to peel glue on floor tiles and is about 8" wide. I started with the small one to remove most of the wood in chunks. Depending on orientation it will either dive In Or skip off. Adjusting angle helps with rate of attack. After the bulk of the wood is removed I switched to the wide bit and shaved the remaining bits of wood. I have a 10 horse 2 Stage air compressor with a 60 gallon tank and run it hard. I would not try this with a smaller unit. If you try this and don't have a lot of experience with this gun you can dive thru the hull. Also these guns will fire the bits out so be careful. All said and done I was able to peel all the wood off and now just have to sand the glass for bonding which goes quick instead of trying to sand off a ply of wood
