Seem to be a few different opinions around here and the world with this question.

Does the number of teeth on a starter matter?

I have a 5.7 and the old starter had 9 teeth and the new one I got has 11. Guy swore to me it didn't matter. put it on, but haven't had the chance to try starting it yet.

Opinions?

Re: Quick starter question

My opinion - if the new drive gear is the same diameter as the old, then the teeth will be closer together and will not mesh correctly with the flywheel ring gear.

Ayuh,.... Generally speakin',.... Chevy starters come in 2 flavors, the staggered bolt pattern, 'n the straight pattern,...

The staggered pattern starter will turn over a motor with a 168T, 14" flywheel,...

The straight patterned starter spins a 153T, 12" flywheel,...

Tooth count of the bendix drive is irrelevant,...
