Quick start is not working any longer. Engine will engaged Quick Start on cold start, warm and hot starts and will dis-engaged after a few seconds and run at great idle. Now....QuickStart is not running at any Temp,

Need help to find out why and fix.

Re: Quick start not working???

Could it be the temp sensor/s? I read that the Port side has a wire that should trigger the Quick start.
Motor runs well but the Quick start is not engaging.
Concern is that it may lead to a bigger issue.
Any suggestions/ideas appreciated before I spend $130 and $56 on sensors.

Thanks to all.

Re: Quick start not working???

It could be the power coil on the stator, a broken wire or the power pack. Or the temp sensor on the port side. Any one of those run quick start. Or the yellow/red wire from the starter solenoid not powering it up.

Thank you so much Boobie. I will be testing the Temp sensor for continuity today. How do I test the red and white wire? Ad far as the Stator...Can that be tested?
Thank you

Go to cdielectronics.com for trouble shooting procedures.

Easy check with test light is to :disconnect wht/blk sender and attach to light and other end of tester to a 12v+ source. Start engine and when temp reaches 96?(+/-3?) sender should go to ground and cause tester to light. If not the sender is bad or t-stat has a problem not letting cylinder head reach temp.

Re: Quick start not working???

Thank you.
I removed the sender on the port side and heated the sender per instructions found in the forum with a continuity probe.
The white/black wire had continuity from the wire tip to the tip of the sender when heated. The tan wire had no continuity from the wire tip to the tip of the sender when heated.
I waited for the sender to cool and repeated test and found continuity again from the white/black wire tip to sender but no continuity from the tan wire tip to the sender.
Started the motor but QUICKSTART still not working.
Note: The motor runs well after it starts but again, QUICKSTART has always worked and it has stopped working.
Thank you all for reading. Looks like i will replace the port side temp sensors unless someone suggest otherwise.
Standing by.

Re: Quick start not working???

Yes. But I did a visual inspection of the stator and I think I found the problem. The stator has a burned part in it.
My stator is CDI173-4643 and it has 3 yellow power coils. The one that is alone and has 2 orange wires attached to it looks burned and it is black. ( The other 2 are yellow) How challenging is it to change the stator? Johnson ocean runner 1997 225 hp.
Thank you in advance for your help and attention.

Re: Quick start not working???

Read post # 3 again. That looks like the power coil is bad and it runs quick start and slow.

Re: Quick start not working???

Thank you Boobie!!
You hit the nail on the head with #3 post.
I had not check or noticed the bad power coil until today. Great call!! I will be looking into getting the stator replaced somewhere here in Miami. I do not know of any mechanics. I will have to ask around. I am not sure I can do the job myself.
Thank you so much and take care.

Re: Quick start not working???

Forgot to mention something. With the orange wires disconnected they should read 96 ohms +or- 10 ohms. From orange wires to ground, 0 ohms.

Re: Quick start not working???

Thank you, Thank you to all .
I replaced the stator today and the engine has quick start and is running better than ever. The stator I removed had a burned power coil. Except for removing the flywheel ( very challenging) all went very smooth and it was a great feeling to see and hear the motor start with quick start engaged and after a few seconds run smooth and strong.
I owe my success with this fix to the forum.
Thank you Boobie and all that help!!
