Quick question on mercruiser alpha one gen 1 gimbal bearing grease seal

which way does the grease seal behind the gimbal bearing get installed? flat side in or flat side out? Than manual doesn't show.

I believe the flat side goes towards the bow. It's easier to install with the lip facing you when you tap it in with a seal press.

I could be wrong but I don't think it makes a difference either way.

It's not like a conventional seal.
It's to stop grease from flinging into the bilge area.
As Benny67 said I don't think it's critical.

Usually, flat side is opposite of grease side.
