Quick question: Fuel hose size? 5/8 or 1/4

I have a 1968 Johnson 100 HP. It currently has a 5/8 diameter fuel hose on it. Will the engine run OK with a 1/4" hose or do I need a 5/8" hose?

5/16" was stock. Part number 772564.

Walmart has 1/4" and 5/7". Can I use the 1/4"? This fuel line would connect to my fuel filter/water separator to engine. I'm pretty sure my primer bulb is shot and possibly leaking air.

Go with the original size all the way to the connection on the motor...5/16th
