Quick Help! cant find neutral with engine runnning?????

so the boat works perfectly until yesterday (1989 bow rider w/ 4.3 V6 alpha1. i went to stop like i normally do. boat has only drive and reverse when motor is on. turn it off it appears to slip into neutral and ready to start/go into gear. but will not find neutral with it runnning

new lower unit 2 years ago and no issues.

please somebody let me know something? everything is the same on the boat linkages look new.

Ayuh,.... Check the shift switch, on the shift cable switch plate to see if it's workin'....

it only works from reverse now....like the linkage isnt giving the shift switch a good bump to move it from fwd
