Questions about my hull

Hello, I know this isn’t a sylvan owners forum, but the one on iboats isn’t as active as this one. Unless I am confused, I believe Starcraft and Sylvan were under the same roof. So I figured you guys would be able to answer my question. We have a 1984 Sylvan Sportsmaster. We bought this boat toward the end of summer last year. I had to drive aways to find a deep v aluminum. I was looking at Starcraft, Sylvan and bluefin. Just some background on boats styles I like . I have been doing some electrical maintenance and fixing some Outboard issues. I decided to wax and buff and I wanted to really get a good look at the whole hull. My hull as 5 “chines” I think they are called. At the front of for sure the 4 outside ones there’s a hole about 6 inches back, the middle one may be covered by a roller, I can’t see one. Are these supposed to be there?

Those are not sealed to the hull and the holes allow water to drain when you pull her out of the water. The biggest danger is trapped water freezing and causing the rivets heads to pop.

Welcome aboard, Shane.

Thanks for the response, it just seems weird where they are for drainage. Holes at the rear of the chines would make more sense then the front. As long as this is common I don’t need to worry about it.

My starcraft had holes sealed by the PO in the front and water was trapped inside. Being in a freezing climate i not only drilled through the epoxy he sealed the holes with, but i also added a drainage hole in the rear of the stringer. There was a bunch of water inside that came out of the rear drain hole...

Welcome to the Starmada! We don't discriminate the SC stepkids!

We refer to the bottom one as a keel and the 4 others as lifting strakes.

Not to be a debbie downer...hopefully this is an optical illusion from the reflection but this looks similar to the creasing I had on my outer line of rivets which were accompanied by alot of stress cracks.

Thanks again for the responses and including me into the group. I may drill holes in the back also just so I know the water is getting out. I think it’s just the picture don’t think there’s any creasing along the rivets, but will double check today.. I keep our boat in my parents shed need to go out today and replace the fuel sending unit, hopefully get my gauge working sucks guessing how much fuel I have.
