Question for the fiberglass/gelcoat experts

I have a Glastron with a VEC hull, and over the past 2 years I've built up minor scratches on the keel from beach pull-ups. Now obviously, I would have helped myself by getting a keel guard after purchase, but too late for that now.

(EDIT: more info: yes, the gelcoat is pretty much gone on a 4" wide section of the keel, going about 2-3' long)

My question is, do I need to repair this or is it OK to leave it alone? In other words, is there any future worries with leaving it alone?

I'm not too worried about the cosmetic aspect (it's not too noticeable anyway), but I've seen alot of people repairing this type of damage (or talking about it here) and I'm concerned it might be more of a worry than I'm making it.

Thanks Much! :)
