My 67 johnson 40 is having a power problem. It seems to run pretty smoothly, but it has only a small handfull of power. if you get more than just one person on it it slows to an absolute crawl. any tips?

Sounds like a compression prob or it's only running on one cyl.

Well, the problem is not that simple, boobie.

First off, what kind of boat are you running this motor on? And we need to look over the other points of this motor. What condition is the ignition system in?
What condition is the carb in?
There are several things that need to be looked at.

Both of those replies are valid. It is almost guaranteed that it is running on one cylinder. The question is Why. That can be caused by an ignition problem, and/or a compression problem, or other, rarer problems. The carburetor feeds both cylinders equally, so that probably is not the problem, but not to say it cannot be another, separate problem.
