Re: Question about leaf springs on trailer

Good Lord configuration 2 is correct for loaded springs!
get the bigger 1750# springs so it wont hit the fenders! or at least get some that have more arc in them, you can find some that are 3.5-5" arc if you look hard enough.
get out on the water and fish, at least your motor runs. I wish mine only had a spring problem right now.

Good Lord, that was 30 posts ago. The misunderstanding was figured out a long time ago if you would have read the entire thread.

Good Lord, putting 4000 pounds of spring under a 1500 pound boat is going to beat the snot outta that boat (there will be very little compression over potholes!). Go with the lighter springs as was mentioned...bigger isn't always better...well...sometimes! :p

Re: Question about leaf springs on trailer

I got the springs installed last night and everything looks great. Plenty of distance between the tire and the fender and the ride is good.
I'm very happy with the results.
I want to thank everyone for their imput and knowledge. It was a great help.

To everyone that participated in this thread,
Thank you........

P.S. I'll be posting a new thread tonight about tire size, weight ratings, etc.

Re: Question about leaf springs on trailer

Just one more question???
I got the hangers drilled out, all the correct nuts and bolts in their proper places, springs installed, one new fender and all is well.
Just a minor technical question. On all the pivot points, the bolts have locknuts so they can't back off. Since these are pivot points, do I leave a little wiggle room for everything to pivot or do I wrench down hard on these bolts and nuts???

hey mavrick, your leaf springs on your 1984 trailer have 25 years of service on BOTH SPRINGS, I would definitely replace both sides.there are spring service centers that could help you . good luck!!
