So this will kill the mussells but not harm the fish that eats the mussells...?

No fish eat these mussels.
They have no natural predators.

So far, it doesn't even harm other species of mussels.

Quagga mussels as prey [edit]

In 1994, invasive species biologist Anthony Ricciardi determined that yellow perch did not find the invasive dreissenid species palatable. In 2004, he determined that yellow perch, over the intervening 10 years, had developed an appetite for the Quagga mussel. While sounding like good news, it is tempered with the knowledge that it introduces contaminants into the food chain, notably Clostridium botulinum. [8]

Redear sunfish, a specialized mollusc-eating fish, are now being stocked in the Colorado River drainage as a defense against the quaggas. [9] As with the yellow perch, this predator–prey relationship could cause toxins and microorganisms to move up the food chain. Although quaggas are edible for humans, eating them is not recommended due to the accumulation of toxins, pollutants, and microorganisms within the mussels' bodies.

The world record redear(bream) was recently broken at Lake Havasu and they believe it is because of the abundance of these mussells.

I wonder too if that solution could have unforeseen long term affects. Once it's in the system, you're stuck with it, kind of like the quaggas. What if it morphs into something else that starts to kill fish or other wildlife, morphs due to higher water temps, water content. Guess we will see...
