I recently inherited a 10hp QD-15 that my father in law bought new in 1954.
Rumor has it that the engine has less than 10 hours. It is obvious that the engine was well taken care of. The green is still bright under the cowling as well as on the exterior.
However the engine and tank have been in his shed and unused since the 70's.
I have cleaned the engine and tank with soap and water.Replaced all fuel lines and spark plugs. My fuel mix is 24:1 with Johnson 2cycle marine oil. It takes just a couple of pumps on the fuel primer to fill the carb and bowl and pressurize the tank.
I have disassembled the carb and cleaned, and used Johnson kit #439071 which came with a new float.
Now to my problem!
The engine will start and run only a few seconds. I have the original manual, and have set the High and low speed needles accordingly.
I learned that I can start the engine in gear, and therefore at a higher throttle setting, and managed to set the needles as well as I can.
The engine still stumbles and dies at low rpm settings.
I am sure I am missing something in all of this. I solicit and encourage all opinions and recomendations.
Thanks in advance
