I can't say anything abou the q8 , but I have a q7 and I've been happy with it. All I would advise is that if you get the q8 get atleast the 5.0mpi as a bare minimum. And I wouldn't look at anything below a 5.7mpi or larger, as the boats are heavy. I wish I had the q8 for the added room.

Re: Q81 ?pros cons

I have a 2006 Q8i. Its a great river boat, or perhaps a lake of most any size. I feel it is better suited to fresh water use than salt. I live in Tampa, and Tampa Bay can get pretty choppy. 5 knot winds it will handle smoothly. The waves generated by 10 knots winds can be harsh. 15 knots will make travel VERY slow and would knock your teeth out at cruising speeds.
Mine is a 260HP 350 w/ an Alpha One. I removed the 2bbl carb and replaced it with a 650CFM 4bbl. Top speed is 56mph. The boat pulls skiers, wakeboards, and tubes well. It did all that well with the 2bbl carb also. If you like fishing, there is NO where to mount a rod holder. Your hands will have to suffice.
Overall I am happy with the boat. Lots of boat at that price point. The new Q8 SSi has a lot less features than does the Q8i that preceeded it, so look used and enjoy it!
