Attention all Q5i/Q5i Sf owners, I'm about to purchase a Q5i or Q6 but can't decide which one to go with. Therefore, I'm looking for any reasons NOT to buy the smaller/cheaper Q5i/Q5i SF. Please help!!!

All depends on your style of boating.

If you like to fish, then I would definitely consider the S/F models. I have the Q7i which appealed to the FAMILY more and is only a sports boat. But, I like to fish and I sacrificed getting a bass boat to something the FAMILY liked. So, I had the dealer install a trolling motor and a fish finder on the bow. I got a 75 lbs. thrust motor but this boat needs at least a 100 or more lb. thrust. Also, is you like to move about on the water, make sure you get at least a 220 hp or more. Tahoe boats are on the heavy side and needs the extra HP to get you going.

We are not talking about a huge size difference...a foot in length and less than half a foot in width...

To me the key differences are:

Max Weigth capacity...8ppl/1300lbs for Q5 and 9ppl/1700 for Q6. If your friends are anything like mine, you'll want the higher weight capacity...

and

Fuel Capacity: 23 gallons on Q5 vs 45 gallons on Q6...How often do you want to fill your tank? No boat is exactly fuel efficient...depending on the power package you select, the gas may be used quickly...

There is only a $1800 difference in price on Q5sf and Q6sf...if you are financing it for 5 years, we are only talking aroune $30 month...

In any case, get the boat that meets all of the needs for you and your family...I have been known to throw line off the back of my Q7 while sitting at anchor in a cove...

Re: Q5i Regrets?

Good point. My buddies have some pretty good beer guts so I will probably get a Q6 ski/fish. My next tough decision will be the motor. One of the previous posts suggested a 5.0L over the 4.3L. I guess it all depends on what my local dealer can find. I could go either way, however, cheaper is always better...

I have the 4.3MPI V6 on my Q7...same HP (220) as the 5.0L V8. The 4.3MPI does have a bit less torque than the 5.0L but I haven't experienced any issues with. I've run with a boat full of adults...pulled a tube...and still have not had any problems.

In general, I tend to agree with the notion that more power is always preferred. However, for me the better fuel efficiency of the V6 over the V8 and the ease of maintence on the MPI were the key points.

Just a note...I'm not exactly a speed freak on the water...to me, there is not much difference in running 55mph and 52mph...I'll gladly give up a mph or two at top end to get better performance while cruising and at lower rpm's...to be honest...I rarely even look at my speedo...I adjust my throttle based on rpm's...

Good point. I have the 5.0 and burn up one tank in a day. That's $120 out here on the west coast ($4.19 gal.) and, only do 58 mph...a little over 60, if I'm by myself. You won't notice the difference of the 5 to 8 mph loss.

All boats are money pits but we wouldn't purchase them if we were "conservative" people, would we??? Hours and hours of enjoyment usually trumps saving fuel... That's the American way!!!
