I bought a shifter which could house the right harness. I bought a harness that has a key in the dash I have the tach hooked up right Volt gage works. start switch works. choke works, but I hooked up a regular switch to kill the engin there is a black wire with a yellow line on it, is this the ground that goes to the salmon on the switchbox to kill by the key? It,s no big deal but would like to have it correctly hooked up. anyone know ?

Black/yellow is the new wire color for the ign killer. it would connect to the salmon wire on your '79. However, you need to have the multi-coil ADI ign for it to work that way. Some of the '79 Inline sixes still had the distributor ignition. You need to kill power to the switcbox to kill that kind of ignition.

What kind of ign do you have?

if the ign switch is wired properly, the ground wire (usually solid black) will be connected to the black/yellow wire when the ign switch is set to off. Test it with an ohmmeter.

BView attachment 90654eing this harness works on oil injected engines and mine has no temp wraning or oil warning sensors I usesd th lines as ground to switchbox to swich then switch to salmon on the switchbox. View attachment 90655View attachment 90661View attachment 90660 this goes to toggle switch not keyswitch View attachment 90662 Green and white go to black whic is connected to slamon on the Swichbox so I can hook the black and yellow up the the green and white there on the key switch But I hope the keyswitch is then grounded properly for this to work my outdrive is off I can run on a hose but i think i got my answer here

Re: Push to choke harness Key kill wire

Why don't you go on the maxrules.com website and get a wiring diagram for the '79 motor and get a newer wiring diaghram for the same HP and ignition system as well, so you can see the new wire colors. You should be able to make an interconnection diaghram, and get straightened out.

The older color codes were: salmon/orange - ign kill when grounded, red +12VDC, Black- ground, grey - choke, brown - Tach signal, white - +12VDC ign accessory, yellow - starter solenoid

The newer color codes are black/yellow - Ign kill when grounded, red - +12VDC, Black - ground, grey - Tach sender, purple - +12VDC Ign accessory; yellow/red - Starter solenoid. Black/white - Choke wire, Tan wires were for temp alarm,
