Reading the post aboput the poisoned dog really bummed me out. I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the response. This place is full of dog lovers, and folks who love dogs generally seem to be the best folks..... to me anyway. I would really love to hear about your favorite dogs. What made that one special puppy so special? What kind of dog is your favorite, and why? Does your dog go boating with you?

I love dogs. My wife and I are what I call "Puppy People", we prefer puppies to people. We have three dogs, all female (they don't lift thier legs on the furniture) and we consider them our children. One is a Boxweiller named BooBoo. She is sweetie and at eight years old the matriarch. The other two are Rottweilers, Precious and Sugars. A few years ago I had to put down my best little budy, Spike. He was a boxer, a good friend, and as human a companion as I ever had. I miss him.

Precious and Sugars are two and three respectivly and spend a lot of time playing together. Sugars has attatched herself to my wife and is always at her feet. She even sleeps next to my wife in the bed! Precious is my good little darling, but I can't love just one puppy, they are all my good little girls. I don't know what I'd do if someone harmed these sweet little angels (people are afraid of them because they are rotties, and some people like to get up close to our fence and screw with them)

My dogs are the most loyal, most loving companions....I hope there is a special place in hell for those who harm puppies. Anyhoo, I look forwars to hearing about your dogs, and if your pet is a cat or bird, please tell me about them too!

Best regards and God Bless,
SoulWinner

Re: Puppy Dawgs

I have 5 cats, (Oreo, Bear, Trouble, Gizmo, and Nermal) all of which are either spayed or nutered (sp?)...

Trouble and Gizmo are house cats most of the time and Bear, Oreo, and Nermal most of the time spend the night outside guarding my boats, but they are in and out all day long... Sometimes I feel like the cats door man...

Oreo is a tiny little thing that might weigh 5 Lbs soaking wet, came around about 8 or 9 years ago when I found her and her kittens living in a boat that I was restoring... She's a sweet little cat... Found good homes for her kittens...

Trouble is one of Oreo's kittens.. She's a big, fat(she weighs at least 15 Lbs), jet black monster who spends most of her day sleeping... She has it made and she knows it... She likes to go outside and run real fast through the grass and chase the lizards... I think the grass tickles her fat belly...

Nermal, whos also one of Oreo's kittens: is a pretty big boy who acts more like a dog than a cat.. He followes me around like my shadow, and has to get a bite of my doughnut at breakfast...

Bear (who lives in my boat) is my attack cat/ boat guard... He's a simease mix of some kind and was the runt of the litter... He got his name because he looked just like a little brown bear when he was a baby... The little turd will gladly shred you without remorse (I have the scars to prove it)... I don't think he understands that he has claws... I tried to give Bear a bath once... ONCE!... Never again...

Gizmo showed up in the street out front of my house about a year ago looking like he missed a few meals.. I know he belonged to somebody because he was so tame, gentle, clean and he was'nt very old (6-8 months maybe)... I thought he was de-clawed when I first found him because he never put his claws out when I would pick him up... I put several ads in the papers, put signes with pictures up where I could, and checked with everyone around, but unfortunatly nobody ever claimed him... So, Giz is my buddy now and he thinks he runs the place... (like I needed another cat  )

Those are my Buddies... :)

Re: Puppy Dawgs

I have an 115lb chocolate Labrador named Buster. He is so incredibly stupid in some ways, but so smart in others. When I yell at the dogs about something they've torn up, they all run and hide except Buster. He just stands there with the pieces still in his mouth and looks at me.He can't climb up in the back of the truck by himself unless I put him a hamburger in the bed. Then, absolutely no problem. He goes up like a deer. He's smart because he has taught me to always have him a hamburger when we want to go somewhere. He also likes to try to sit in peoples laps. This can get pretty funny, sometimes. Dogs are great!

Re: Puppy Dawgs

We have a choc. lab to, 2 yrs old, good watch dog. She goes everywhere with me. We go boating, swimming and fishing together. She sleeps in our bed, and when I work nights, she pokes me in the face with her cold nose, to let me know she needs to go walkies. She loves to get new toys, and the ones that are old she tears them up, as to say....time for a new toy. Her name is Magan.
An ideal Labrador has a kind, mild worried expression because they feel they are not fed enough. They are quite devoted to their stomachs. Their love of children is well known, as is their love of water (and mud). A hallmark of the breed is their lovely manners and they are true ambassadors of the dog world.
4 cats. Amon, Tut, Bess, Isis. All from the Humane society. and all named after egyptian gods.

Tut has 7 toes on each foot (normal is 5). His feet look like mittens. He is 12 pounds and is jet black. When we got him, he had no white hairs. Now he has about 20. He is extremely friendly to everyone.

Amon, Red-point siamese (off white with orange ears and tip of tail). Has been abused a little before we got him so he is a little scared, but loves to have his belly rubbed. He herds Tut around the house.

Bess, So cross-eyed, she cannot see worth a darn. She also will trigger allergies in people that have cats. She is a linx-point Siamese. Bess will meow until you play with her. She is friendly and will come to anyone as long as they sit in the recliner.

Isis, the tortise-shell kitten. My son picked her out. She was a stray and was trapped in the wild. Her eye was so infected that it was the size of a walnut. She now has one eye and a lot of energy. She is the smallest. She is 3.5 lbs and 6 months old. She was sick when we got her, but is very healthy now.

All the cats get along well. Amon and Tut wrestle

My son once said he wanted a dog, but when we went to look at them, he showed not interest and went to look at the cats. He was jumped on by a hunge dog when he was 3 and really has not been comfortable with them since. Personally, I like to have dogs visit. It keeps the cats on their toes.

All the cats are fixed/neutered and indoor cats only. They are also declawed. They don't miss the claws, are well adjusted and excellent pets. tut and Amon like to wrestl in the tub. It sounds like the are killing each other, and they each come up with mouthfulls of black or white hair. They are pretty much the embodiment of Ying and yang.

Nosleep....what happened to your lab? I have had two, one was 8 months old when she jumped the fence (in heat) and was runover by a car, very very sad day in my life. Took 3 years to get over her. I think thats why Magan has been spoiled so much. I'm in the process of getting her bread, as she will be two yrs old this march. I want two labs, one being her offspring(sp)male. I can see them play now.....cant wait!!

Love my Yellow Lab! Nothing funnyer than watching it swim with my eight year old hanging on to his tail being pulled along thru the water.

Re: Puppy Dawgs

too many critters... tell my wife that when I die
sh'ell be one of those old ladies with 30 cats.
my baby; 4yr old english springer spaniel. he
loves the boat, but hates fish and wants to kill
them... 3 cats; angel is 6, found as a stray kitten.
was skin and bones when i found her going fishin
one day. she's another 7 toe cat, very gentle
never put's her claws out. Pumkin, born 1 day b4
holloween, is the B1tch of the house... crys to
go out, then 2 min. later crys to come in... crys
till you let her sit on your lap... what a pain!
then Bilbo; only male cat. very nice gentle cat
and real easy going. he's 1 now and this spring
will join his siters outside keeping the mice at
bay.
and last is Biscuit, my wife's lap dog. he's part
Dauschound (dad) and part pomerian &?? (mom). glad
to say he's more hound than anything with his nose
always to the ground.
think mutts sometimes are smarter... the first lap
dog attempt was a mini. pinscher. what an idiot!
you'd walk him for 1/2 hr, then he'd come in and
crap on the floor. he even lifted his leg and did
his business on me one day when i was sitting on
the floor  .... he had to go!
best dog ever had was an Aussie shepherd. still
miss that old boy (Spanky)
have always had a dog since i was a kid, and always will!

Re: Puppy Dawgs

Sure do miss my dog Bear. She was a mixed breed and smart. She was an outside dog mainly due to her thick coat. A good watch dog, she would never bark or growl unless someone was around when they shouldn't be. She would talk to my wife and me but no one else. Her last several hours before being put to sleep, she talked and whined constantly as if she knew something was wrong with her.

Now comes the hard part of finding another loyal family member. I'm just dreading the puppy stage. Just finally replaced all the furniture with knaw marks from past puppies and grandchildren. :D

Still no suspects on who poisioned Bear.....SS :(

88spl
I lost him, or rather I am pretty sure he was
stolen. He was 8 years old. That was about 10
years ago. His name was Buck, or "fishdog". I miss
him. :(

Re: Puppy Dawgs

Hoser was a black retriever, and was the best huntin/fishin dawg, companion, friend I wever had.
He loved to ride on out on my hog too, so he was a hog-dawg in more ways than one.
He could trail a swamp buggy, or track all day...One of the few doggies I know of that could.
He was my 'trailer' and allways at my heel whenever he could be there.
We were inseperable, even thru a divorce..Hoser was a great family dog, but he was MY dog.
He was in form as a retriever, and would fetch whatever he was ordered to. I don't remeber having to train him to do anything except to housebreak (which for some reason, took me a year!).

He lived a very long life of 17years, and died from renal failure and was posative for antifreeze. I firmly believe he drank it by accident, as dogs love antifreeze, and ALL my nieghbors adored him.
He died in December of 1994, and his grave is on the side of the yard with his favorite food bowl marking it.
I miss him so much even today. We now have a wonderfull little girl named Bamnbi (or BamBam). She is a Stag red mini pin, unclipped.
Picture Homer Simpson's dog, and that's our Bambi.
This dog, whweras she can't track her own paw prints, loves the outdoors, boating ,driving, (yes, she tries to steer).
She can sleep all day, if given the right environment.
We love her, but I wont let her get as close to me as Hoser did. It devistated me when he died.
I try to keep in mind that no matter how loving and smart ,cute, and all that my little bambi is, I know she will probably go before me.
Here is a pic taken abt a year ago of her helping me to clean the boat.
Re: Puppy Dawgs

I my favorite family dog was a collie our family had whwen I was a teenager. She was so gentle; and she had a herding instinct that kept the younger children from straying out of the yard.

Last week we went to Sanford to look at a litter of Goldens and just fell in love with the mother. My wife couldn't help but leaving as deposit for one of them. I can't wait till she's ready to come home! I've been wanting a Golden since childhood but landlords and businesses have prevented me untill now. I'm so ready for this dog; I can hardly wait till the end of March.

I have raised and breed German Shepards, Jack Russells, and Rotweillers.
I have 2 Jacks and one rottie(i-boats last chance) in the house, and love em to death.
My favorite dog though was a 135LB. rottie named Max.
He was one of my starter dogs when we got into Rotts and he was a good one.
He lived till about 18 I think, and I went out and just found him dead one day in his kennel.
Vet said old age.
You have heard the old saying "That dogs dumber than a coal bucket"
Well the dog is as dumb as the owner makes it. :)

I've had many, all retrievers. I used to raise them as a kid.

My current "spoiled brat" Char is a Golden/Black mix.

She's only 65 pounds and is black as a moonless midnight except in the sun-she's bronze!

She is spoiled rotten and does some of the goofiest things, like most retrievers.

Her favorite trick is to lay on the inner tube in the pool and float around. She does this all by herself. What a life.

She also smiles. Whenever ever I come home (only me) she scrunches up her face so that her front teeth are showing. All the while wagging her tail like there is no tomorrow.
