I'm pretty sure it's because of where y'all live and not because of a Woodchuck.

Down south last year was very abnormal too. Mid to high 80's in March and some days we were in the low 90's

Last year on March 16th Wifey and I were toasting our season opener with a couple of glasses of Vino while in a cove on the Hudson River. Never depend on a rodent to predict the weather :D

Its a rodent that was yanked from his slumber and shoved in front of a camera. Phil isnt a meteorologist.

Phil did exactly what the town wanted him to do, bring people to town to spend money.

Happens every year, just like groudhogs day. :D

Who ever got the idea that a ground hog could predict weather anyhow?
Around here we just shoot them, then just let the critters eat the carcass most of the time.
The one's around here don't show up till about mid May.
When they do they wreak havoc on gardens here.
I shot 27 last year, over 60 the year before that.
Other than using them for dog food, they're not much good to eat from what I hear.
Too bad, they sure are plentiful.

Out of curiosity, where do you hail from? I'm guessing deep in the Ozarks or maybe New Jerrzieee :D

Well for starters IF Punxsutawney Phil ever actual speaks and predicts the weather, then you have a right to blame him (or her whatever the actual case may be) for such predictions. But since his/her handler does the actual translation, I think you need to choke his neck instead. I think General Beauregard Lee in Georgia predicted six more weeks of winter. I guess he is getting extra food these days for his success...

Hey now!:D

Seriously though, I live in the Ozarks and most of us love to hunt and fish. I don't, however, like to shoot things just to watch 'em flop over.

I'm cussing the winter weather, (it's snowing right now) as much as anyone but,,, man do we NEED the moisture. My pond is still the lowest it has been since it was built and there are cracks in the field I can put my entire hand in. Lakes in the area are in about the same condition.

Bubba, not sure where you live but here in middle Georgia we are getting more rain. And that is on top of the huge amounts of rain we already got this year too. So our streams and rivers are actually over flood stage and the lakes are filling up very quickly too. The ground is saturated. Of course we were in a severe drought up until 2013, but it could stop now in my opinion... I mean spread it out over time a little...
