Pumping water, but running hot.

My Mercury outboard starts on the first pull, runs great and is pumping water. However, after running for a minute or two it gets very hot and dies. The metal housing on the back of the motor gets so hot, that it sizzles when it gets wet. Suggestions? Thanks!

If it's just running in a bucket, try it on a boat in the water in motion.

As running in a bucket can let bubbles into the water intake.

Heck, I've seen some do it at the dock till they get underway.

That's just a wild stab at it guess, because we don't know what motor you are reffering to.

All of this happens while the motor is on the boat. I run it on a 12 foot aluminum V-hull. I'll get the specs on the motor.
