Toyed with idea of renting a variable reach forklift to pull both motors from 1975 Century. Built gantry instead and worked like a champ. 230 bucks and own it vs 500 bucks per day for forklift. If anyone wants the plans let me know.

I built one very similar to what you have there. The only real difference was that I put a 2X4 flat on the ground, from upright to upright to keep them from spreading.

I'm in the same camp. Making up what you need for possibly only occasional use, will usually pay for itself after it's first use. Plus you can "swap and share" amongst other in your boating community. And then there's the personal satisfaction. We'll done.

Looks pretty sturdy! Did you consider angled braces connecting the posts and the beam across the top? I'd be concerned about side-to-side stability.

I thought about it, decided if If it looked like I needed it then I would add it. So far, nothing I've had swinging from it felt like I needed the angled bracing. However, when I get ready to put it back on the trailer with the motor in it, I will probably add them anyways.
