Trying to replace the plastic pinion gear of my 1966 johnson 6hp and can't see to remove the pin that holds the pinion in, any tips on how to get it out or is it just blunt force?
You have to remove spring tension, as you have to do anyway to disassemble. Need to be careful as there is quite a bit of force even on the small motor. With tension removed, tap the pin lightly from one side, and pull out with a needle nosed pliers from the other side.
