Pull start to electric start conversion...

I have a 1987? 210cc / 9.9hp Sail power S#0B203140. I'd like to convert this to an Electric start if possible. If so, how hard is this to do? Pull starting after a stalling at idle (I'll ask about this in another thread) is a real PITA.

It looks like must of the parts can be ordered , it looks like it will cost from 500 to 900 if you can build your own wiring.you will save a lot there. I would look for an electric start model, with the age of this motor, and the long lead times in getting the parts.
lastly, I could not find the mount part number for the stater. I have only done a quick look to see if most parts could be ordered.

She is an old motor but runs really well. I'd hate to retire it and have to get a new one. Being on a Sail boat it really doesn't experience that much use on a yearly basis (20 - 30hrs). Just enough to get out of the Harbor and the sails up. Maybe, I'll just stay with a manual start.....

Go to a Merc dealer, they sell electric start kits for these engines... Has everything you'll need in it...

Take your engine serial number with you.... (and it's 1986)

Thanks... I'll take a look along that route. It will be 6 - 7 months before I go back in the water. Northern winters do suck. Just so long as the conversion doesn't cost 3/4 of a new motor.

I did that same conversion on a 1991 9.9 Evinrude a couple years ago for my dad. He couldn't pull the starter rope anymore.

Did alot of research online and here on I-boats. Found everything I needed thru online buy&sell sites for a small fraction of what the kit was worth from the dealer. Think I spent about $200.

I needed a new flywheel, starter motor with mtg bracket, ignition push button, neutral start safety switch, battery cables and a battery. Took me a couple months to gather all the parts but like you, I had all winter to get it done.
