I was pulling the pull rope to start my 1970 something 25hp evenrude outboard and the rope broke apart. I got a new rope, took the top pull rope *** embely, tried to install the pull rope, put the top piece back on and the reload spring did't work right. Could anyone tell me step by step how to put a new pull rope on a 1970'to 1980'25hp. evenrude outboard moter.

thanks, David

Re: pull rope pulled out of motor

David,
Working on outboard motors is mostly pretty straightforward. The repair of recoil starter assemblies is not to be taken lightly. The recoil springs can do some real damage if not handled with extreme care. While the steps to replace the rope cord are pretty easy, a manual is a must have for this repair. Find a repair manual, follow the steps and use eye protection.

Re: pull rope pulled out of motor

Hi David
Welcome to the board. If you will post the model #of you motor and your email address I will send you the info you need. Xcusme gives prudent advice on this issue I strongly suggest that you give it concideration. I understand that the cost of purchessing a manual seems a little extreem just to replace a starter rope. So here a hint go to your public library and see if they have a copy for you to study. Once you see all the info about your motor and how to make repairs you will what your own copy.
