Propeller Weight

I have a 1983 Johnson 75 hp. The props I've been using have been aluminum, weighing upwards of 6 pounds. I recently bought a stainless 13 3/8 X 17 prop and it weighs in at 10+ pounds. Will the inertia of this heavier prop beat up my gear train, lower unit shaft and seals? I'm thinking about first entering gear, and shifting from foward to reverse, and vice versa. How about this weight just hanging down on the splined shaft , extra weight for power TT, etc?

Re: Propeller Weight

You should be fine... Most boaters prefer the stainless steel props. True there is some minor accelerated wear, but the performance gain should be more than enough to make up for it.
