What's your motor's WOT range? I'd keep the prop that keeps in the top half of the max RPM range. My Yamaha 115 2-stroke has a recommended WOT range of 4500-5500. I run a prop that gets to 5200 RPM's at WOT. I think that's the perfect prop for me.

5000 to 6000 wot. Based upon the two props I tried would 14 X 21 bring it to 6000rpm

I’d be careful about assumptions maybe. Just because that second prop you tried with 22” pitch…has a hell of an unusual diameter for that kind of pitch. Meaning it’s not a conventional type prop perhaps. Likely one for heavy big hulls with more engine perhaps.
What’s the gear ratio on that engine you have there. I’d that engine the same underneath to any other of the makers at all ?

My motor is a Tohatsu BTF 150D . It has a gear ratio of 2.14 and a 4 3/4 inch large hub size.. I was thinking a 14.25 X 21, 3 blade would be what I need. What are your thoughts?

What speed is she doing with the 19” on the limiter ?

What do you suggest I do
Is the boat still useable now or have you finished for winter ? If still in use, I’d go out again with the 19” and get some numbers for sure. See how easy it’s on the limiter and how quick. Record the exact speed in gps as it’s approaching and on the limiter. You should be a little quicker than 30 something mph for sure, I’d say. Just going by the likely mathematics around it maybe. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the other 22” prop. Just because it’s maybe of an unusual dimension, in terms of diameter (for comparing at least). If you can get a 21” 3 blade prop of the usual generic dimensions, then take that too.
Something like a 14x21” or just around or under the 14” diameter might be the norm and great for a benchmark and data.
Just to explain why..
If you are only getting 34 mph on the limiter with a 19”, your prop slip is crazy high. To the point of ridiculous even. Way over 30% for sure, without checking the maths. Likely more even. You should be into the 40’s for sure really.
So..if you can get a 21” prop to run close to the 6000 rpm mark, and even with a very average and realistic slip of about 15% (to make it easy on my in head maths😂)…you should be able to see a realistic mid to late 40’s gps I’d think.
Anyway. See if you can borrow a normal sized 21” 3 blade to try out. Or even if you can’t. Try that 19” out again and gather exact numbers. Also have it in mind that you are trying to gather how much the rpm limiter is taking from you. How much is left to go if you like. Is she easily hitting the limiter ? Or only just on occasion perhaps ? Is there enough left over to run a 21” up near 6k ? That’s what you’re trying to find out from what the 19” can tell you as she is.
Forget the other 22” I’d say. Too obscure and a weird diameter size for data collection, I think.
What were the actual type of 19” and 22” props you tried ? Make and model ?

I just ordered a 14.5 X 21 aluminum 3 blade. It should be here within a week.. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a stainless until I new what I needed. I will get some numbers for you and get back with you. Thanks for all your help.

Sounds sensible to me. If you do decide to take a gamble on a pitch for a stainless to try out…good news is that you are in the commonly used and sought after pitch range. So basically, if you see a bargain, used and great condition stainless like a laser 2 or similar (always know where you are with a laser 2)…get it for a good price…you’ll have no problems selling it on for the same or more than you bought it for. Always a market for that kind of size prop.
I’ll caveat a little around the laser 2…great props in every size or use I’ve had for one. Had literally a dozen or more of them over the years and still own a 19” now..:but…big but…for some reason unknown to me, any I’ve had or tried out in a 21” (we are talking on at least 6/7 occasions on different applications), I’ve never been impressed or thought poorly of that particular increment. No idea if it’s just me or what’s going on with that. 19”, 23” and 25” all superb and do what they say on the tin. 21”…not so much. Always been a mystery to me.
