Hi,

I recently noticed a very slow oil leak coming out from the prop housing. (Johnson 2 stroke 2 cylinder 50hp 2000 model) The oil is very clean in color so I assume it is from the gearbox. I checked the gearbox oil. The level was a little low but clean not at all milky.

I bought a new prop shaft oil seal with the intention of installing it (I am in a remote area so I have no choice but to do repairs myself)

I took the prop off and got down to where I can see the top of the oil seal. But it is not obvious what to do next.

I'm not even sure the seal needs replacing. Did it only start leaking when I was flushing the engine after the last run? If not how come the oil is not milky? Can the seal leak oil out without letting water in?

Do I need to replace the oil seal? If I do, how is the best way to do it?

any help would be greatly appreciated
