Prop removal tool

I know it would be handy to have a prop removal tool. But is it necessary to get the prop off? Thanks and still learning Eric

If you don't take it off and grease prop shaft, there is a good chance that it will corrode in place and you end up cutting it off piece by piece. Then you buy a new prop to replace it.

oh. its a mercury 90 hp 2 stroke. outboard. I was wanting to switch props on it and try a different one.

its nice to have but not totaly neccesary. you can use a socket and ratchet.

it has a aluminum 21p prop that the edges look like its been hit a few times, but it still performs good. i am looking at a 20 pitch laser 2 SS to try on it. it will drop by 1 but its a good price so i was thinking about getting it and trying it out.
If i hit something with the aluminum it will bend, but the SS will not. So is there a danger of it breaking something else on the motor that is more expensive to repair?

Correct, but the SS prop will take out the lower unit. Which one is least expensive to repair? Alum prop, or lower unit?

First you have a banged up prop, not good.
You need to know rpm and speed as it is NOW.
Also with a banged prop those figures would be unreliable.

its not really banged up. just the edges that slice the water aren't smooth and pretty anymore. got notches in them. maybe the deepest notch being 1/16th of a inch. the guy i got it from did alot of fishing from it. guess he figured the aluminum prop is better to replace than the lower unit. I will prolly stick with what i have, since i don't want to buy a lower unit. Thanks guys
