40 hp merc... I was told to rehub the prop, did that and it ran fine the very first time i took it out...Now it does the same thing. In low/mid throttle she runs great, but at high throttle it acts like the prop is out of the water or it acts like the motor is in nuetral. Anyone got a clue. Thanks

Howdy Dawgfish. Is it possible that your prop is ventilating or cavitating? Is your cavitation plate even with the bottom of the boat? Is it parallel with the bottom?

Is it possible that your hub has failed again so quickly? I now wonder if that was really the problem the first time.

Check your cav. plate for evenness and parallel with the bottom and let us know.

Red sky at night...
JB :)

Re: prop rehubbed...still not running right

The fact that you say "it ran fine the first time I took it out", has me a bit worried.
You may have spun out the hub again. When a prop is re-hubbed, it should come with a short list of instructions on "HOW TO BREAK IT IN".
That is critical. If the prop is not idled, forward, reverse for several minutes, chances are good it will spin out again from torque on the fresh rubber.

You've seen racers rock back and forth on the track. This is to scuff up,and warm-up the rubber, and also to keep the garbage on the track from sticking..Same thing with the "burn-out" at the drag strip. But, they still replace them often. The hub is the same thing.

The new rubber bushing is smooth inside the
the prop hub. It is pressed in,and only lightly (if any) adhesives. This is on purpose, so that the rubber will spin-out instead of the gear train if you whack a log,or otherwise over-torque the prop.
Try locking the flywheel, and trying to turn the prop by hand. It should not spin at all.But do not "herc" it too much.
If you go from idle to wot,(hole shots)often,it is hard on the hub,(especially if you are over propped).

If it is solid, it is probablly still ok.

If the hub has not spun out,JB may be right about the cavitation, it ran good till the rear fuel tanks ran dry, lightening the boat in the back, thus raising the cav plate out of the water.. hmm.
But it could be a sheared gear (eeeewww).
