Hi me and my brother changed impeller yesterday but i suppose something went wrong because i cant move the prop to any direction after i put the gear in reverse.
The prop spins freely in neutral and ratchet in forward but its locked in reverse
The outboard is an mercury 50hp 4 stroke from 1997.

I think that is the way it is supposed to work !----Nothing is wrong here.

Sounds about right to me ! Just be careful when trying to turn a prop by hand or tool. On some healthy older 2 strokes, in the unlikely event that your ignition is powered up, she’s in gear, they could technically fire up if you’re unlucky enough. Unlikely, but possible for sure and seen it done, all be it deliberately. Ratio on gearbox can increase the chances of it sometimes

Hello new update , today we filled up a big bowl with water and the intake was covered by water and then we started up the engine but there is no water coming out from the tell tale , we think we need to rise the water volume and try agian. We did everything right the impeller goes clockwise as it suppose to do. Do you have any other clues?

Perhaps you just don't have the water in the Barrel high enough to insure the pump is primed. Another possibility is that the Water Tube didn't engage the Pump when you reinstalled the Gearcase, or a Grommet is missing. Also, the Key/Pin that connects the Impeller to the Driveshaft didn't get installed

Another possibility is that the Water Tube didn't engage the Pump when you reinstalled the Gearcase, or a Grommet is missing. Also, the Key/Pin that connects the Impeller to the Driveshaft didn't get installed

i think we don't have enough water in the barrel high enough to insure the pump is primed. We double checked the LU today and everything is properly done , the water tube is connecting with the pump.

We actually miss the upper washer in the waterhouse , it was noone there before and it worked fine.

Hi , i think you're right but the problem is that we dont have any flushing water at the marina right now.

In that case you need a bigger tub or a barrel, if on a trailer just back it down the ramp to test.
