The Shift Wires went thru a Fitting and ended up inside the Exhaust Tube/Housing, but there was so much Water in there, they never got very Hot, unless the Water Pump Failed...

Had both Evinrudes and Johnson with the Electric Shift. I like the Johnson Control better, as it was One Motion, where the Evinrude, you were fumbling for the Buttons and/or looking away from where you were going.

Never say never, always or don't, or any other absolute word or phrase.

Don't believe half you read or a quarter of what you hear. Rely on what you see with your own eyes.

I saw the electrical harness on the '68....twice. It was burnt to a crisp. The insulation was burnt away and the metal wires were exposed and touching each other. The motor was used in fresh water only. One year the first time. There was never and indication of overheating or pump failure.

I had an old '61 Ponch that reportedly had transmission problems from day one. Mine went 120,000 miles and was still chugging away. OTOH, the 'Rude was the one-in-a-million that failed.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
