Re: prop nut

Haven't looked at a 25 hp lately. My engines of recent years have been in the 100 hp area. They use a SS locking ring and a bronze nut with a nylon insert. The nut fits in the recess of the locking ring and once tight you ding 3 of the 6 tabs over to hold it in place (safety lock).

Never heard of 2 nuts to hold the prop on but anything is possible. What I guess you have is the first nut to hold the prop on and a second nut jammed against the first to lock it in place. Sounds like an after market thing.

Only thing I can think of is a stripped nut. Bronze (brass) against a SS shaft and a bronze spline on the prop (nut butted against it) should not seize in a years time I wouldn't think unless subjected to some severe salt water corrosion.

If you had it off last year, did you lube the propshaft prior to installing the prop? How tight did you tighten the first nut? Did it feel normal when you tightened it?

Re: prop nut

WHOA!!!!

That is NOT a nut, it is just a splined spacer, why the engineers had the outside made with flats to resemble a nut, I'll never know, but just slide it off with the prop, and move on.
