PROP LOCK-NUT

I have an '83 90hp Chrysler model #908H3A. This is the 3rd outboard I've owned, and it seems strange that the prop lock nut is not castellated. There is 3/4 inch of shaft behind the lock-nut before the cotter pin. Last week on the water the lock-nut backed off, and all that held it was the cotter-pin. Seems like dumb design.<br /><br />torp

I betchya someone dropped the original in a lake somewhere and replaced it with a narrower regular nut with the same thread pitch.
