just installed new prop supplied by local dealer as listed in catalog for Evinrude 70hp 1975 model. Installed in the following order:

Thrust bushing
Prop
Spacer
Nut

When installing the spacer between the prop and nut, it does not appear to grab the teeth of the shaft? what am I doing wrong? Is this normal?

Re: Prop Install

Silly question, do you have the thrust bushing installed in the correct direction? I beleave the spacer should engage the splines on the propshaft.

Re: Prop Install

yep sounds as if you got the thrust washer backwords. Also did you grease up the shaft with triple guard or some other water proof grease?

Re: Prop Install

Thrust washer/bushing is installed with the larger side towards the lower unit and the smaller side toward the prop. the prop appears to sit into the housing correctly, but again the spacer teeth do not engage the teeth on the shaft. they are close, and rub, but do not engage? Yes plenty of triple action lube was applied. just replaced the prop on my Yamaha 75 on the pontoon and it was no problem. Just can't figure this one out...
