Bought a 1978 Bluffer(its a clone of a ski barge)about three months ago. Got a 75 jonny with a jet unit. So far I built a 15 gal. alum. fuel tank that sits in front of the center console. I made a plywood box around it with a hinged top so it doubles as a seat.Now I dont have the two 6 gal cans in the back taking up room. Saturday I rewired everything and moved the battery from under the console to the back, where I will bulild box around it. A bottomline 320 fishfinder was added a couople of weeks ago.I made new hinged door on the bow storage compartment. The old one stuck up about an inch and a half. I didnt like that so I made a flush lid. I made an alum. pedestal for the front seat(it had two front seats) with a hinged lid for storage(cant have too much storage in a boat!)Next on the list is some new side rails, the current ones are too tall and beat to heck. The floor is stripped of the old carpet, but I need some advice on preparing it for new carpet. The floor is in good shape except for a couple of cracks. It doestn have any soft spots or rot. Should I put on a coat of epoxy or fiberglass or what? What about where the floor meets the sides? Something should seal that? Thanks for any help. I will try to post some pics when I can get my 9 yr old daughter to show me how.(or do it for me!!) Thanks again, joonch

Re: Project: Git-r- done!

Are the cracks deep, or are they hairline cracks? Do they radiate from something bolted down or are they just there in the floor? What you can do if the cracks are shallow hairline cracks is use a small drill bit, drill each end of the crack to prevent spread, grind the crack out in a shallow V shape along its length, and apply some epoxy in it. If the cracks are deep down to the wood, you may need to grind them out and lay some epoxy saturated cloth in layers to fill the ground out area to level with the rest of the floor. Make sure there isn't any rot or moisture issues in the wood under the glass (if there is wood). Good luck...

More like project:Aint gonna happen...for awhile. Went out fishing the other day and the drive shaft snapped off up inside the crank. The splines in the crank are wasted.The motor is a 1980 so I dont know if it worth fixin.I looked in iboats motors and found a rebuilt powerhead for about $1200.oo. ouch! plus the drive shaft and bearing assembly are another 325.00.Im debating on what to do.If I put a new driveshaft and bearings in the pump does anyone have any idea what i could sell if for.Oh ya JasonJ thanks for the info on the floor repair. It looks like its gonna be awhhile before I worry about the floor.My wife and daughters are going to Hawaii july12 thru 19 and here Im gonna be with no stinkin boat. Damn!!!!!!!

////////

Boats are like women, they crack with age. That's normal.

With both: Don't worry about it unless the bones show through, and the cracks can't be covered with carpet.

Ed.
