I am handy and have done some boat repair in the past , minor stuff but i am mechanically inclined . Just wondering if anyone with a decent amount of experience thinks this is worth the time and $ to get it back to running shape . Also is it feasible to make it a tiller . Any comments are welcome ,thanks

This is a 2000 Smoker Craft 16 ft Single Console Stinger. There is NO motor included with this boat. The previous owner gutted the boat with plans to replace the interior but passed away before completing the project. The entire interior was removed and a heavy gauge aluminum deck was installed. No additional work was ever completed. the boat comes with the original console and steering, 3 seats with posts and bases, a bimini top, MinnKota 36lb thrust Power Drive bow mount trolling motor, Lowrance X65 Fish Finder, and all the pieces and parts that were removed. The pictures are of the actual boat for sale and its current condition. Also included in this sale is a 2000 Haul Rite boat trailer that the boat was purchased with originally. The trailer axle also has bearing buddies to allow frequent greasing. This is a good sound project boat.

Welcome to iboats.

Excellent investment. Easy to modify or restore.

I will move this to our restoration section where hundreds of alumnum boats have found new lives :D

Check out hese tips and look at the Starcraft index for many aluminum boat restorations and projects. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288451 item #9

Absolutely and yes!

Well maybe. I guess we really ought to know what the asking price is on this rig first though eh?

2000 is a fair price, the aluminum on the hull of the smoker crafts is a little thin and probably why the heavy deck was added. Assuming it was done right you've got most of the hard work done. Yes, you can make that a tiller. I'd go CC walkaround if it was mine but it would cost more in the end.

It's actually a 1999 based on NADA and that price is about $500 high. The Stinger was made in 1999 and that was the single console model. Considering all the extra stuff that is added in I would go a bit higher but I would still negotiate from the $2000 price.

Don't make a $2,000 mistake, get a Boat History Report before you buy!

The splashwell may be a problem on the tiller design, but that can be modified.

That boat isn't designed to be an open deck boat, the sidewalls and gunwales are too thin and weak.

I'd like to see what's under that aluminum decking... is it regurgitated wet foam hurl or is it nice dry floatation foam?

Yah, I'm not feelin the $2K number. "Extras" rarely add value to a boat though those do sound pretty nice.

You pretty much have a total rebuild there. I dunno, that's a nice hull and great trailer, maybe $1Kish range?

You and I are on the same sheet of music. Consider this thought..... Widow selling with a need for money and she is plagued with emotion too :( Good luck on the negotiating.

Yup ^^^ agreed.

I'm also thinking about projects that can be found in the weeds behind the shed for $500 with all the same steps/work necessary. But yah, still a very nice hull/trailer combo.

All the best!:)
