Show them some real money / promise not complain and most shops will work on older motors.

They don't like working on old motors because there can be several things wrong, and just fixing one may not make it run much better, so they end up with unhappy customers that come back and complain about spending more money to fix other issues. After they do a bunch of work the repair bill is so high the customer would rather leave the motor with the shop than pay the bill, so the shop ends up with an older outboard that isn't worth much that they need to sell in an effort recoup some of the costs.

If you still mean that there's no power to the starter, then forget about all the other stuff and follow the power from point A to point B, start at the battery and finish at the starter, a multi meter should give you the answer to the problem rather quickly.

Agreed people with a $ 500 repair bill on a $50,000 boat say " Thank you very much for the service "

Did the mechanic use YOUR battery or Thiers?
I ask, because all else being equal, if they didn't use your battery, then maybe it's the battery that isn't good.
As stated earlier by ondarvr, the battery can test good with no load, but be junk with a load on it....

Have you looked at / replaced the wee ground wire on the solenoid?---Goes from small terminal to the block.

Yeah.. Do what the others are suggesting first, but then I'd check the wiring from remote to engine.. Using multi-meter to check continuity.. I replaced my ignition switch when I found that the resistance in the switch when I turned it to start would sometimes be good, but then sometimes would jump to 250+ ohms resistance... Guessing the insides if my switch was corroded somewhat, and I too was having an intermittent issue where it wouldn't even try to start. Sometimes... Not as drastic as yours, but turning the key sometimes worked and sometimes not.
No issue since replacing it...

Now, I'm not saying that's what your issue IS, just that I had that issue, and it might be worth checking on yours... Still learning myself, so for whatever that's worth... LOL!!

Ok guys we can finally conclude this knowledgeable forum I found what the issue was but while I checked everything you guys told me I learned a lot. Much appreciate. The issue was on the ignition switch we were putting the key wrong. We put in the way that looks like it was fine but it was not once we flipped it over it started right away. Sorry if you might feel that I wanted to your time but I did learn a lot thanks everyone
