problems with 650thunderbolt help!

I have an old merc. on a 15 foot tri hull and I have to use the warm up lever for my throttle and the shift lever to advance the dist Idont believe it should be this way my other boat wasnt not sure if its the motor or the controls I would think a 65 horse should push this boat faster than 26 mph over the water any help would be greatly apprecated thanks slow boat in china maine

Many mant things can affect it's performance,max.<br />Prop slippage, boat loading and weight distribution, and of course, engine performance. Are you getting full RPMs out her? If so, what condition,size and pitch is the prop?<br />If not, try decarb cleaning, and a fresh set of plugs after cleaning.<br />Also,does the hull "sit funny" in the water (ex, bow lower than stern)?<br />It may be holding water under the decking that cant drain,thus weighing the hull down.<br />Perhaps the tilt/trim will increase your top end speed.<br />There are more, but that's about all I can think of now.

Hi Max,<br />The warm up lever is for starting only.<br />After you shift it(with the warm-up lever down) push the shift arm further forward and it becomes the throtal. It moves about 120 degrees from neutral to WOT.<br />...have fun...corm
