Hi there, I'm kinda new to this, so bare with me. I own a 1982 50 Merc, and it has ran great ever since i've had it. (3 years). This year I went out and couple times and then, while WOT it would begin to bog down and eventually die. It would start back up and run very poorly and if i tried giving it gas it would die out, eventually it won't even start, unless I let it sit for about half an hour. Then it would run fine for about 10 minutes then same problem. So I had the carbs and fuel pumps rebulit, got the boat back and still same problem, it did idle alot better and ran better, for about 10 min, then quit again. I was told it was probaly the switch box. So I found a parts engine that had a blown piston, but the guy just put in a new switch box, rectifier, new spark plug wires, and trigger, trying to figure out his problem. Anyway so I have changed the switch box, trigger, rectifier and I changed the stator and flywheel while I was there. I noticed the wires on my trigger and stator weren't in the greast shape, while this one had all nice looking wires. Now I can only get it to start with, mid to full throttle, while choking, once I get it going it will die if i bring it down to idle position. I am stumped now. Do I have to redo my timing? Any suggests on what to do now?
