Hey guys, purchased a 1986 Rinker with a mercruiser 140. First time out it ran like a dream, except for a hesitation while accelerating. Second time out it would die while accelerating, and we would have to wait 5 or 10 minutes before it would fire up again. Took it out this weekend and same thing, except now it dies even during a slow idle.

Please help! Thinking from what I have read that I have to replace accelerator pump, so going to rebuild carb. Also, pulled the filter out of the fuel pump and it seemed squashed down, would that have anything to do with it???

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... A squashed filter is always Bad, that means it ain't been workin', 'n all the crud is in the carb,...

Now would be a Good time to put a canister filter, 'tween the tank, 'n fuel pump,...

Re: Problems with 3.0 mercruiser

Thank you kindly for your reply!!!! I see it does have a fuel/water separator between the tank and pump, and is full of fuel. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to rebuild carb so I can clean it out would it? I did check to ensure that when engine was stopped, I could see two short streams of fuel squirt when throttle was applied, thats why Im so stumped!

Ayuh,... Check it's contents for water, 'n crud,... Dump it in a jar or bowl to see,...

even if it's Squirtin', it could be Bad fuel,...

Sorry to bombard you, but by lean you mean its not getting enough fuel? I will check the fuel/water separator tonight. I also adjusted the fuel/air mixture when it was idling yesterday and it was idling nice, the problem doesn't start until I try to take it up to speed
