I have a 98 Evinrude Ficht 175hp.I've noticed the #2 battery loosing its charge under way. I will get an engine light because of the drop in voltage. When I use #1 I don't have this problem.

I have replaced both batteries, and the battery switch. I still have the same problem. My #1 has all the electronics on it. My #2 battery has the load to the switch, the ground from the motor and a jumper ground wire to the #1 battery. I don't believe I have an Isolator. Both batteries are deep cell marine rv's. A buddy of mine has the same boat, motor, and batteries and does'nt have this problem.

Questions:

1- Should the battery read a little over 12 volts running at 3000 rpm's or higher?
2- When running the motor at 3-4000 rpms should the switch on the throttle that raises and lowers the motor drop the Voltage when you use it?
3- Do I need an Isolator?

Any help with this would be great.

Thanks,

Mike S.

Re: Problem with #2 Battery Charging

1. batery should read around 13.5 volts while running
2.trim switch will make voltmeter drop
your moter has a built in isolator
3. there is a terminal on the power distribution panel for connecting number two battery
if you run a number 12 wire from the terminal to the positive of battery 2 motor should charge it automatically

Re: Problem with #2 Battery Charging

Thanks for the reply Marinemech.

Both Bateries at Idol will charge at 14.5, but under way anything over 1500rpm's #1 will read a little below 12 volts and #2 will run the same, and then when I shut down and start up 2hrs later on #2 it will drain down below 8 volts when running above 1500rpm's,but not on #1. I have a feeling it will kill the #1 batery also. These bateries are only three weeks old.

I've always had a problem with the #2 batery since I bought this boat three years ago. Last year I blew the power pack. I wonder if this problem caused that.

Re: Problem with #2 Battery Charging

I'll check it with the software. I know someone who has the program. I'm going to test the power relay after work and see if that checks out also.

Thanks

Re: Problem with #2 Battery Charging

It was the rectifier regulator. Everything is perfect now, motor is putting out more power than it did when I purchaced it 3 years ago. I suspect this was the problem from the begining.
Thanks for your help.

If the rect reg starts to go bad is it possible it can kill the power pack?
