Re: Problem Removing Shift Cable from housing - complete newbie!
If you are replacing the cable, you will need to remove the engine end by loosening the 2 set screws on the cable guide, slide off the cable guide, and then loosen the nut next to the crimp.. then unscrew the threaded rod as it enters the crimp - then you can pull the entire cable out from the transom outside the boat.. the cable where it enters the pivot housing, is screwed in, it has an o-ring, and some folks use glue on it, so it may seem stuck, you can use a flare wrench or special cable wrench to remove it - the black shift actuator should slide off as shown in your pictures.. you just need to remove the bolt holding the bellcrank in, then slide it out, and that assembly will fall apart.. so it should have already been removed.
If you are replacing the cable with new, you can just cut it off as soon as you see red behind the pivot housing, this will make it a lot easier to remove
I can tell by looking at that cable it is an original OMC replacement cable.. so I pray you are replacing it, and have done your research on the way to set this cable.. and hopefully own the tools needed to set it... Good Luck... we will all be here if you need any more help...
Here are the instructions for re-installing (hopefully replacing) the cable
