primer solenoid vertical

why is it that my motor will not start or run unless the primer solenoid lever is positioned facing down towards the water i did rebuild it,the new kit came with a schrader valve does this make a difference mine didnt have one i also redid all the fuel lines and carbs.Im sorry johnson 200 hp do not know year

the primer soleniod red lever needs to run in the same direction as the body of the primer...

if red lever is across the body then its open to add extra fuel and then floods the engine..

Aslo, the red lever is used when you are pull starting using a rope.. in that case you would turn it and pull the rope..once she starts you turn it back..
