hello all. 1998 mercury 150hp 2 stroke. went to replace my fuel line / primer bulb. and saw there are 2 different sizes on the original assembly. from the fuel tank to the primer it looks to be 1/2. then after the bulb to the motor is 5/16. Im wanting to up grade to a 3/8, but dont have the ability on the back side of the bulb unless i put a reducer on the 1/2 hose barb. is it ok to have the size difference on the back end. i know deff not on the front going to the motor after the bulb. but what about that back. should the size be consistend all the way thru??

Re: primer bulb with 2 different size hoses

I'm in a similar situation. Tank to bulb my line is 3/8". Bulb to fuel pump it's 5/16". I think the 5/16" is correct, and I'm looking (this weekend) to see if I can replace the 3/8" line so I only need a 5/16" bulb... But if that does not work this will likely be my answer:

Since the bulb comes with three different nipple sizes, I'm hoping I can use a different size on each side.

PS. Just noticed this is for 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" I.D. fuel line. If yours is 1/2", it might not work, unless you can swap out the nipple on the fuel tank.

3/8" fuel line (or larger) is recommended for the V6 motors. Smaller motors can use 5/16" or less, depending on HP.

Buy a new primer bulb with 3/8" hose barbs and move on....
