Re: Price of Gas

For you folks in other countries besides the US, how much of your price is tax??

Same goes for the US, some states tax gasoline as much as $0.50 per gallon.

Don't always blame the fuel provider for price gouging.

I do not know about the changes in taxes for 2002, but the highest I have seen on gasoline tax is 29 cents per gallon which is in Rhode Island. there may be places that have county taxes added to the state gas tax that are not listed.
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/hwytaxes/2001/pt1.htm

Here is a list from the tax foundation that also lists the taxes on gas, beer, alcohol, wine, cigarettes, and sales. They do not list the county side of the sales taxes which in Wisconsin are usually .5% unless you live in counties where a new stadium was built.
http://www.taxfoundation.org/variousrates.html

Right, absolutely. The main part of what we pay is tax.

I do not blame the fuel companies (except for the peculiar fact that they all have exactly the same price and they deny any secret agreements).

But regardles of the tax/price combo, I have to pay the total price.

Re: Price of Gas

i got regular octane gas yesterday for 1.27, its @ 1.35 in many places here.

SSM- its sounds like they are price gouging up there. but hotels down here do the same. they get more business on weekends so why jack up prices also? its a sore subject for anyone who has to earn a living i imagine.
