Pressurized tanks

Well today I had purchased a 1957 Johnson 5.5 Hp. I thought the prongs on it looked different. Well, I have since learned on these pressure tanks. i founf a nice rebuilt tank on Ebay. Where in the world can I find the brass connections for the gas hose ends? Please help.

Buy a pressure tank with the hose/connector already on it. Buying the connector alone is expensive for what you get. What area geographically are you in? Very best way to buy one is at at an aomci meet. Or go to aomci.org and post a wanted ad in the webvertize section. They will sell you a good tank. Alot of the tanks, not all, but alot will need rebuilds likely. Not a huge deal, but then you would need a rebuild kit as well. For someone not experienced in rebuilding them, I would reccomend ensuring the one you buy is free of rust/varnish inside, and holds pressure already. You should be able to get a good original tank with hose and connector for around $50. Fully restored/painted they are over $100. At aomci meets you can get them for as low as $20.

Another option, and sometimes cheaper, is to put a fuel pump on the motor, so that it uses a conventional tank. Check out the FAQs for a thread by Tashasdaddy regarding this.

Thanks Chris, I read all about installing some vacum thing and plug the carb, Im not to good at that stuff, the article lost me. I can find tanks, but everyone I have writien to does not know where to get the connector. I never heard of aomci, Im from norther PA. I will go check aomci.org, I have been at this all day since I got home with the motor and have not gotten anywhere.

You can also put a want ad on CraigsList. I did once and got a nice working 6 gallon tank for $10.00 last year. All you need is a little patience and one will come your way cheap.

But he just got a new engine. Nothern Pa. has open water now. He wants to ride!

The connectors are out there. Dont look at the new price as they are @$135 each or so. If you want to just test the engine you can hook the fuel & air line directly up to the engine (just dont reverse em). This will work for testing it on land but make it very awkward to move.

(and Zephyr, I still hate that damn bug!)

Yea, old harold drives a lot of peple nuts. LOL

Dont worry, you can get an answer on an ad relatively quick and you might be able to drive across town to pick it up by the next day. It might be quicker than buying one on fleabay and waiting for it to ship. You might expect up to a week to have one shipped to you.

Thanks for the great news. I have spent 12 hours looking already. Waiting for someone to write me back on a tank and connector, every time I buy something this happens. AT least there is hope now.

There is a pressure tank on the detroit area Craigslist for $10.00. The ad ony has his phone number. He may ship if you ask him to. he also has the connectors as well. I just picked up a 1955 15 hp without a tank and hose an am learning the motor is the cheap part.I have been finding out that these tanks and assemblies bring good money. I did find a site that sells the 2 prong connectors for around $130 each (WOW).

Thanks Jim, I know, they are old, so people are marking these up kinda out of site. Its the American way. If I sell this motor, I might as well get on the band wagon and sell it seperatley. The real kicker is, I have no insurance, so my choice was to get my monthly meds or buy this motor so i could go this year, dont think next year will be an option, so I now made my choice and have no motor or medds, my luck!!

I buy lots of these pre 60's OMC's and they rarely come with tanks. Over time I have accumulated plenty of good original tanks but no couplings. Tanks come in 4 and 6 gallon versions. Hose is still available for about $2 per foot. O-rings for the couplings are slightly smaller than "single line" type and are about $2 each as well. If I had any extras I'd be happy to send you one.......I'll see what turns up in the next few days........fishing is the best medicine anyway. Regards, Tim

If you're a real tightwad and need to replace the line without spending a buttload of money, I would just go to Napa and by 12' of 1/8"
fuel line and cut it in two equally. Zip tie the pairs together about every 18". Some places, that twin line fuel line is as much as $4.50 a foot and this would be the most cost effective option.
