pressure in lower unit

i have a 1989 70hp johnson i just rebuilt the lower unit took it out to the lake ran great brought it back to the cottage pulled it out of the water tried to turn the prop by hand and it was tight so i took the upper screw from the oil filler and the screw blew out of the hole it was under alot of pressure and my brand new gear oil was burnt any help would be great

Burnt brand new oil with a freshly rebuilt lower unit means that a bearing, or bearings went bad, or the lower unit was not assembled correctly.

Did fill it from the drain screw correct and not install the vent screw until fluid seeped from it?

If not you may of had an air pocket?
