I have purchased among other used parts a electric fuel pump. What I always hear is that petrol fuel also goes bad and gums up the membranes in a fuel pump. So I'm wondering if I should pump fresh gas through my pump every once in a while to keep it "fresh".

Is that reasonable? Do you guys do that?

The fuel pump shouldn't have any fuel stay in it, it should all drain or evaporate out. They can get gummed up by old fuel staying in it in the lines connected to it

So better empty it instead of putting fresh fuel in it once in a while? It’s not connected at the moment, both would be easy for me.

Yes IMO
Pumps lay on the storage shelves for years and are good. Only issue giving it many years of time would be rubber breaking down. Or if stored in humid area, rust

But it’ll they are new, they are dry. Mine was in use and has remaining petrol, probably also water in it.
This is why I thought fresh petrol would be less damaging.
