The new power pack listed for my johnson motor shows wire leads that I do not have. The power pack I have has 7 wires on one and 7 on the other. I do not have mulit wire plugs. 3 cylinder engine. tell me where to start looking.

Wait a minute .---That is NOT a 1984 ignition system.---------Looks to be 77 or older.

You need your motor year, model, and serial number to be sure to get the right part. Go to marineengine dot com.

There is a problem with that because the model # does not match with the ignition system on this motor !!----Serial # is not used to order parts for older Johnson outboards.

Could I pin and connector my wires and use a new power pack?
I have no output voltage to the coil. I do have voltage from the tricker wire.

If the powerpack that was previously on that engine is similar to what is pictured, then.................

You've got a 1984 70hp engine (possibly) with a 1984 70hp powerhead... BUT... somebody has really done a Mickey Mouse job of refitting it with the wrong ignition system... at least... possibly more-so (pic too small to tell)

If that engine incorporates three (3) coils... the powerpack (and the ignition system) in all possible certainty is the 1978 variety, in which case the powerpack part number would be 581925 that supersedes up to 582057...... BUT.............

************************************
If your original powerpack is entirely a different design and you simply ordered the wrong powerpack and need the correct part number for the 1984 70hp powerpack, that would be 582138 that supersedes up to 582556.

If I put in the correct powerpack. I need to add pins and connectors to all the accessory wires with the matching plug. Is that doable without changing the stator, timing ring, coils,...?

Stator ohm out at 1.6 and the book said 0.8-1.6 If the power pack is getting power from the stator, and the trigger are firing then I should get an output to the coils. If not bad power pack. Does this seam logical?

Sorry to say that I personally cannot visualize what you or someone else may have been doing to that engine, and unfortunately I can't help any further than with whatever I've already offered. Hopefully another member has further foresight with what you're attempting... however, I do wish you luck.

Stator out put at the power pack is 167. the 78 system says under 175 replace. the 84 system says under 250 replace. If i replace my power pack it looks like i will need to replace the stator. Does this sound about correct.
